You can now use your PS4 controller on your PC.
This is good news for people who own PCs and PS4 consoles and love using both gaming platforms.
While it’s really down to your preference, many find it easier to use a controller while playing PC games. There are controllers dedicated to some PC game distributors, such as Valve’s Steam and Google Stadia.
How to Connect PS4 DualShock 4 Controller to PC
Nevertheless, if you have a PS4 and a DualShock 4 controller, you don’t need to spend more. And without further ado, here’s how you can do that:
What you’ll need:
- Windows or Mac PC
- PS4 DualShock 4 controller
- USB Cable
According to the tech news outlet, you can also wirelessly connect the controller to your PC via both device’s built-in Bluetooth or with a USB Wireless Adaptor for the controller to plug into your PC’s USB port.
Moreover, any other Bluetooth adapter that supports Bluetooth 2 should work well too.
Nevertheless, you won’t be able to use the controller’s audio jack, for now, so you’ll have to use separate headphones to plug into your device or use wireless ones if you prefer.
If you’re playing PC games via Steam, Valve has already released a new update supports PS4 DualShock 4 controller, meaning you only need to plug your controller or connect via Bluetooth. It will automatically work with your games on the platform.
But what if you’re using other platforms?
Step 1: Download and Install a Third-Party Software
According to the outlet’s guide, you’ll have to download and install DS4Windows, which is a software that fools your PC into thinking the controller you’re using is an Xbox 360 controller, which Windows computers support.
You can download the software’s latest build via GitHub.
The file will be downloaded in the Zip file, so you have to extract it on your desired location. After the extraction, you’ll find two files: S4Updater.exe and the DS4Windows.exe. You’ll want to double click the latter to begin setting up the software.
Step 2: Setting up DS4Windows
Based on the guide, you’ll be asked where you want your profiles and settings to be saved and that the outlet recommends choosing “Appdata.”
After that, you can start installing the software, which you can use for Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. For Windows 7 (or older) owners, you also have to click “Install 360 Driver” as well.
Step 3: Connect your DualShock 4 Controller
After installing the software, you can connect your PS4 DualShock 4 controller either via USB cable or wirelessly through Bluetooth.
For USB cables, all you really have to do is plug it on your computer, and it would be able to read it.
If you’re using Bluetooth, press and hold the central PS Button on your controller and then the Share button for at least three seconds. Once the lightbar on top of the device begins to flash, you can open the Bluetooth settings on your PC, then click Bluetooth from the Action Center and then “Wireless Controller.”
If you’re asked to enter a pairing code, simply input 0000.
Once you’re done, your controller should be connected to your PC and will allow you to play any PC games with your PS4 DualShock 4 controller.
